Twitter creates special Son Heung-min emoji via hashtag

Thanks to the popularity of South Korean soccer star Son Heung min, his team (English premier league club Tottenham Hotspur) have launched a Korean-language Twitter account for team brand promotion and news in Korean: @Spurs_KR

But more importantly, and more hilariously, for a limited time Twitter has also created an actual emoji image of Son.

Here's an example, posted by his teammate Toby Alderweireld:

You can activate the emoji yourself by including any of these hashtags in your tweet:
  • #손흥민
  • #Sonny
  • #HeungMinSon
  • #NiceOneSonny
  • #토트넘
The emoji is Twitter specific so will only appear on Twitter and in the app, and will run until April 18 this year.

Here's the image that Twitter is using for the emoji, a little clearer in a larger size:

The account, @Spurs_KR, contains a special welcome message video from Son himself:

It really goes to show how powerful these international relationships have become, both the powerhouse popularity of English football teams as brands and the importance of "fan service" communication with customer bases all over the world who pay big money supporting these teams with merchandising and game viewing fees. I have multiple friends who will literally wake up at 3 or 4am to watch European matches.

Update:

In May 2022, the same emoji image was brought out again to celebrate Son's winning of the "Golden Boot" award.
