Top Naver searches in South Korea in 2021

Naver released their year-end wrap-up of top searches in South Korea in 2021 a couple of weeks ago but I'm just now getting around to taking a look. Here are their lists translated to English for you with some brief explanations for topics that might not be readily known.

Overall top Naver searches in South Korea in 2021

I like that Naver releases this list. Google's year end results are always weighted for the past year rather than raw absolute search volume. But to start with here, Naver gives us the absolute searches that topped the year, which of course are almost identical to the top searches ever other year. Here we can discover that the overwhelming majority of searches on Naver are actually just people looking for links to other websites (as usual, YouTube tops the list) or quick-hit information that Naver can return immediate in onebox results (like "weather).

Naver also included this list of top trending searches on both mobile and PC. These are search terms that saw much higher popularity this year compared to last year. But I won't bother going through them because they're mostly the same content that has already appeared on these other lists. Take a look yourself here in this image:

The Naver blog post also divides up a few of the most popular searches in specific categories, including:
  • entertainment
  • drama
  • COVID19
  • movies
  • sports
  • games
  • public institutions
Check out the list yourself here in this image:
