Naver goes all-out to celebrate World Puppy Day 2023

Naver has gone all out for today, March 23, which apparently is International Puppy Day (국제 강아지의 날) to draw attention to the needs of these cute critters as man's best friend.

Usually on a day like this we'd just get a simple new logo doodle, which we do:

Naver logo doodle for World Puppy Day

But clicking it brings up some little surprises.

Click the Naver logo and it opens the search results page for 국제 강아지의 날 (World Puppy Day). It will include this onebox result talking a bit about the day, plus this cute little button of a dog that says "Push Me."

Push it, and you'll activate a fun little mini-game where you can now click all over the search results page and every time you do, a new dog breed will appear with corresponding bark sound.

Also on the page are special articles relating to dogs. Above is a section on finding dog-friendly locations to visit, like pet cafes, lodging, etc.

The box also has things like pet quizzes, and interesting information like calculating dog ages in human style years, info on various dog breeds, etc.

Of course there is a section for shopping for dog related items.

You can click through to Naver Shopping to see all sorts of special dog and pet promotions.

Naver listing of abandoned dogs (유기견 조회). If you lost yours, check here to see if it was found.

The onebox results also include a link to this list of dogs that have been found by authorities and presumed lost or abandoned. The page includes info like breed, location, time, and photos. If you happen to have lost your dog in Korea, this could be a simple resource to see if anyone has spotted it.

Abandoned dog in Busan

Just for an example, look at the poor little guy above, found in Busan.

Click through to be taken to his listing directly on the Animal Protection Management site (animal.go.kr) which is another good resource for posting and searching info about lost pets.

There's also a link to read about efforts to help abandoned dogs, shelters, etc and how you can donate to help specific projects at Naver's charity and social fundraising site Happy Bean at https://happybean.naver.com/template/campaign/issue3

There's also an interactive quiz to see how knowledgable you are about taking care of your dog at https://campaign.naver.com/anniversary/dogquiz/

And here's a special page filled with various Naver Maps for different regions pre-filled with bookmarked locations that are useful for dog owners

For example, here's a map of Busan with various restaurants that you can take your dog to. Note these are not dog restaurants where you can eat dog meat. Totally the opposite. Restaurants where the owners love dogs and have facilities for pet owners to bring their dogs.

Adding to that, if you use Naver Whale browser, you can also download a new tab theme pack that includes adorable dogs in famous Korean locations

I quite like this one of a dog in Jeju with a 돌하르방:

Nice to see attention brought to the care of dogs. It seems like people either think of dogs as literal replacements for having actual children, or else just entertainment products to dispose of when no longer cute. If you can, spare some cash for the shelters rather than buying more dog merchandise crap for Korea's $1.5B pet care market.

There are also links to results for other pet days such as

I'm not sure exactly where there needs to be seperate days for puppies and dogs, but so be it.
