Quick tip: why's a turkey called a turkey in Korean?

The turkey bird is known as 칠면조 in Korean. But why? It apparently comes from the Hanja 七面鳥 - literally, "seven faced bird."
But why is the turkey known as a seven faced bird? I think probably the best answer came from here:
칠면조(七面鳥)처럼 색상이 변하는 칠면초(七面.. : 네이버블로그
So there was a colorful herb plant (Suaeda japonica) that, apparnetly as an exaggeration of how colorful it can be, was called 칠면초 (七面草) - literally the "seven faced plant" for its supposed 7 colors.

Somehow the same naming scheme got adopted for the turkey, presumably due to how colorful it is.

Or maybe just people confused 조 and 초 or just found it natural enough to apply like a rhyme. Who knows? Anyway, interesting. I'd love a nice thick slice of turkey right now, slathered in cranberry sauce. The fall weather's got me aching for some Thanksgiving dinner right about now.
