If you're a user of the convenient Emergency Ready App, which sends Korean government alerts and notices to your smartphone via the app rather than the blaring and annoying phone emergency broadcast system, you may have noticed it's gone quiet lately.
That's because it was one of the many systems damaged in the recent government data center fire. As a result, the usual alerts are now only being sent by the standard emergency broadcast system. So, if you turned off those alerts because they were loud and annoying and were instead relying on the push notifications in the app, you won't be receiving anything.

Probably not a big deal, but I thought about this when a buddy complained about sudden excessive traffic nearby, apparently not knowing that there was a major concert at a stadium venue that night. I knew, because I had the standard emergency alerts enabled again on my phone. They're only in Korean of course and generally not important. I just realized that some people may have taken my advice and installed this app and shut off the loud annoying emergency alerts and therefore might not have realized the situation of the app being dysfunctional right now.
In fact it tells you if you open the app but I would assume most users just relied on the notifications, which now don't show up.

In fact, that app is currently listed as a "Level 1" priority for getting it back online, so let's hope the multi-lingual Emergency Ready App will be reactivated once that one comes back online too.

The ROK’s Ministry of Interior and Safety (MOIS) Emergency Ready App, which provides emergency updates in English, is currently undergoing restoration and remains partially unavailable. MOIS is transmitting emergency alerts and safety information via SMS text messages to all app users, including foreigners registered with major mobile service providers in South Korea. MOIS aims to fully restore the app ahead of the APEC Economic Leaders’ Week.
