List of recommended coastal bike routes in Korea

Here's a quick introduction to a good resource for cyclists who want to explore more of "real" Korea and enjoy riding along some of Korea's beautiful coastlines.

Naver Encyclopedia (네이버 지식백과) has a special listing section called "Marine Tourism Info Portal: Seaside Bicycle Routes" (해양관광정보포털 바다여행 : 자전거길 편) that has a lot of useful information for courses you can take to ride your bike along several key coastal areas. The articles include highlights of what you can see along the way and maps (both route maps and elevation gain maps). Pretty handy if you enjoy this kind of thing.

Although all the information is in Korean, it is all pretty clear via Chrome's automatic translations, so I'm going to just share some screenshots of those resulting translations so you can get an idea of what the site has.

The main table of contents for the list is here:

Here's a view of what it looks like by default:

But here it is auto-translated:

Just for a sample, let's take a look at the Siheung-Ansan route:

It starts with an informative overview in several paragraphs of the nature of the route. Here's a little taste, again in auto-translated English:

When you leave Wolgot Port, the starting point, a construction zone appears immediately, but there is space for bicycles, so you can ride all the way to Okgu Park without difficulty. From the entrance to Oido, you can use the embankment to enjoy riding while admiring the open sea, red lighthouse, and friendly fish market scenery. At the end of Oido is the Sihwa Lake Memorial Park, and from here the 12.4 km long Sihwa Seawall connecting Ansan University Station begins. Although it was noisy due to environmental issues, I enjoyed running on the Sihwa Seawall, where migratory birds had begun to fly in again.

It then moves to a highlight of milestones along the course and a brief description of each:

Then an elevation map, and some contact info for locations of interest along the way in case you need more activity than just cycling the scenery:

Finally, each course includes a detailed map illustrating the route plus some additional photos highlighting some aspects of the course:

The gallery shows in a lightbox, where you can zoom into the map.

If you're serious, it's probably more ideal for you though to use a right-click enabler extension in order to save the full size of the map image.

Nice to have another resource like this easily available.
