Bring back Naver's real-time search rankings

Here are two browser extensions that will bring back the real-time search rankings to the Naver search homepage.

Naver removed it in February last year (2021) over widespread public sentiment that it was manipulative or manipulated, either by advertiser or government entity pressure. Kakao followed soon after.

But other portals, including Nate and Zoom, maintain them to this day.

So one extension, made for Naver's Whale browser, extracts the real-time search term rankings from Nate and populates the Naver homepage with them in the way Naver used to display theirs.

The other is for Chrome. It doesn't specify where its data comes from, and my my own quick check, it seems to not match exactly either the Nate or Zum data. Maybe pulling it in from another source.

But the nice thing is that while the terms may come from elsewhere, clicking them links to their search on Naver.

Of course we can still get a lot of good real-time searching data direct from Naver by using their DataLab service, which is like Google Trends. Rather than providing global ranking data however, it groups searches into specific categories and regions. Still good for insight into specific areas of search, but lacking the societal element.

Anyway I thought the idea of adding real-time search rankings back to Naver would be pretty gimmicky but I've found my eye drawn to the Nate data pretty regularly this week. It does seem to give a fairly accurate view of what a lot of people are interested in moment by moment.
